With July 19th in everyone’s diary as a potential date for the lifting of most restrictions following the Coronavirus pandemic the Friends of Hutton Rudby Village Hall are now planning a programme of activities for 2021/22

The Village Hall are excited to welcome Hope and Social back again for our first gig since the Pandemic. Their last visit drew a capacity crowd and the audience were wowed by both their musicianship and the rapport they quickly built with us.

    “Rousing, joyous” – The Guardian

“a big sound from this impressive outfit…inspired, anthemic, great” – Q magazine

“Brilliant, uplifting and inclusive. That was amazing, here’s your cheque”
    – Michael Eavis, Glastonbury Festival

    “Extraordinary songs, virtuoso performances,
beautiful moments and music hall bonhomie!”
    – Tom Robinson, BBC6Music

Hope & Social, eight hoodlums who play all-out, ballsy, joyous and uplifting music to win the hearts of many a gig-goer throughout their ten-year tenure as one of the UK’s hardest working bands. Hope and Social gigs are a bewildering mix of chaos and superlative musicianship, built on some of the finest songs you’ll ever hear, and garnished with generous portion of Northern, self deprecating humour. With a 3 piece horn section and 5 part harmonies, Hope and Social make a massive sound that draws influence from soul, indie, folk, disco and art rock. You’ll sing, you’ll dance, you’ll smile so much your face will hurt.
Critically acclaimed “Happy Bread (and Cruel Hangovers) is Hope & Social’s sixth studio album; a band in a room playing it’s bloody socks off. Think Dexys. Think The Hold Steady. Think the grooviest, funnest bar band you can imagine!
The last few years have seen the boys in blue tour extensively around the U.K garnering the praise of many a fan, fans-to-be, and critics on the way. From folk clubs in the deepest south of England to the cavernous Leeds Arena. Yorkshire’s own ‘E-street Band’ are no stranger to the Festival circuit, having chalked up an impressive list of appearances including Greenbelt, Glastonbury, Durham Brass, Yorkshire Festival, Moonbeams, Deershed and Just So Festival. In June 2019 the band supported indie-popsters Embrace at their sold-out homecoming show at the Piece Hall, Halifax.
Hope and Social aren’t just about gigs. As part of their mission to involve people in most everything they do, they’ve completed a huge number of ridiculous projects and events involving dozens, hundreds and now thousands of people in what they do. Check out for more details.

“Always seriously good performers……..their vocal harmonies just ooze certainty”
    Dai Woosnam, Living Tradition

“In 30 years of listening to folk music, I have never heard two voices blend so perfectly”
David Aird, Chairman Glenfarg Folk Club

“Your writing is magnificent, your settings and playing equal to that and the both of you sing with a rare assured passion that I oft think has gone. It’s a rare gift you have – cherish it mightily.”
    John Tams, (Warhorse, National Theatre)

When Mike Harding dubbed Winter Wilson as one of the hardest working duos on the circuit, he’d clearly done his homework. In 2019 aside from touring around the UK, Winter Wilson performed in Australia, Spain, Belgium and Canada. They also released Live & Unconventional, the long-awaited live album, recorded on tour and at Cropredy Festival with folk rock icons Fairport Convention.

It is in live performance where these two really excel. Now in their 9th year as full-time musicians, Kip Winter and Dave Wilson bring a sense of intimacy to every venue, blending superb, often hard-hitting original songs, stunning harmonies and musicianship with sometimes hilarious humour and tales of life on the road. Kip (vocals, accordion, guitar, flute) ”simply has a voice to die for” ( John Roffey, Maverick Magazine), whilst Dave (vocals, guitar and banjo) is now rightly recognized as being amongst the top tier of British songwriters, with his songs sung in folk clubs across the UK and beyond. Together, their voices are sublime.
